HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Treasurer Robin L. Wiessmann has appointed Michael T. McCarthy, former President of the Pennsylvania Business Roundtable, to serve as Director of Legislative Affairs for the Pennsylvania Treasury Department.
“I am delighted to welcome Mike on board to round out my team here in Treasury,” Wiessmann said. “His long career in legislative and governmental affairs has earned him bipartisan respect that will be invaluable as Treasury works to strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of its informational and operational interaction among the various branches of government.”
Most recently, McCarthy served as president of the Pennsylvania Business Roundtable for twelve years. In that role, he served as chief executive officer of this statewide business association, interfacing with various government agencies and business organizations and developing policy proposals and strategy on issues such as taxes, education, healthcare and legal reform.
Prior to spending eight years in private legal practice in Harrisburg, McCarthy served then-Senate Democratic Leader Edward P. Zemprelli as Chief Counsel for six years. McCarthy spent two years as Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth before serving as Executive Director of the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1978 to 1981.
McCarthy earned a B.A. in History from St. Joseph’s University and received his law degree from Villanova University School of Law.
