HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Treasurer Robin L. Wiessmann has been appointed to the Legislative Committee of the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST).
“I am gratified to join my fellow state treasurers in serving on this important committee,” Treasurer Wiessmann said. “I look forward to working on issues critically important to our state and local governments, including continuing to advocate for immediate solutions to enhance the municipal marketplace as well as preventative, long-term solutions to effectively direct our capital markets.”
As a member of the Legislative Committee, Wiessmann will help shape the association’s federal agenda. The committee coordinates all federal advocacy efforts for NAST, which seeks to be the leading voice for state financial issues in Washington, DC.
The Legislative Committee’s 2008 agenda includes an effort to return matured unclaimed U.S. savings bonds to their rightful owners by leveraging the abilities of state unclaimed property programs. The committee is also monitoring legislation that may affect the municipal debt market.
Wiessmann is consistently recognized for her extensive experience in public finance and investment banking. Most recently, she appeared before Congress to testify about the turmoil in the municipal bond marketplace and its effects on state and local government operations.
Wiessmann has been actively involved in the association since taking office as Pennsylvania Treasurer in April 2007.
The National Association of State Treasurers, founded in 1976, is an organization of state financial leaders.
